CMA Funding Drive
CANTER Mid Atlantic has been there to rehome thousands of thoroughbred racehorses in it's 15 year of life. And as the market for these animals has changed, we have adapted to best serve the needs of horses who need us. There was a time when so many sound, capable horses were coming off of the track in need of a home that we could not keep up with the demand for space. We were maintaining nearly 70 horses at any given time while providing time for rehabilitation, retraining and rehoming. However, thanks to social media, programs like the Retired Racehorse Training project, multiple new Thoroughbred rehoming groups and demand for thoroughbred sport horses, our mission will shift again to change with the times. This is SUCH a good thing! We have forever wanted to "put ourselves out of business", and in a way-thanks to you-we almost have. We are no longer needing to take horses in daily from the track in order to secure their future, as most horses are moving directly into a new home--this is such unbelievable news.
However, the injured horses still need our help and with the announcement of a new program next week--we will be able to do just that. We are so excited to be partnering with another Non Profit in order to help the horses who need it most.
CMA has been forever plagued with what to do with horses who will not pass a "vetting", even when the horse would be suitable for a riding career given time off and appropriate treatment. Horses with small injuries impact our budget so greatly--because many people are frightened to take a chance on them.
Our new program will create a transition plan that will not only warm hearts and minds, but will enable these horses to have a new life--essentially creating a transition plan for high-risk horses where they will be rehabilitated, retrained and rehomed.
We want to prevent horses from falling through the cracks, but we will need your help in order to do so. Our goal is to raise $5,000 in order to cover the costs of our current horses who will require specific training for our pilot program.
CMA currently has 11 horses in it's care, and each of those horses is special in their own way and have so much to give.
Please stay tuned for the announcement for our incredible new program. We know you'll love it, and will feel just as good as we do when we see the magic these animals can bring to an entirely new population!
Donations of more than 50$ will receive a CANTER hat! Please be sure to leave us your address, and thank you!
